Osmo Joins the House of Wise Family

This title had been on my radar for some time, but something unexpected happened along the way. You see, I never really considered the possibility that I would have the opportunity to publish it. Interestingly enough, I was actually looking forward to supporting a potential Kickstarter campaign when another creator, Alfred Paige, approached me and asked if I would consider publishing a new book. Let’s just say it was a story I couldn’t turn down.

Today, I’m proud to introduce the newest member of the House of Wise family, DeMario Hill, an advocate for the indie comic community, owner and creator of the Black Indies Universe Facebook group, and creator of a new riveting series called Osmo.

“Man, when I tell you that having a comic book of my own is a surreal moment for me, that’s nothing short of the truth,” Demario said. “Seeing something I’ve worked on, dreamed about, and poured myself into finally become real, it’s hard to put that feeling into words.”

Where it all began:

“I’ve always been a fan of comic books ever since I was a kid. Being a huge X-Men fan, comics were just something I’ve always been passionate about. Like most people, I knew about Marvel, DC, and Image—but honestly, I had no idea about indie comics until I joined a well-known comic group on Facebook, Black Comic Lords. That’s where I discovered a plethora of new universes filled with amazing characters, stories, and indie publishers that I could really relate to. It opened my eyes to a side of comics I didn’t even know existed.”

“Once I discovered the indie comics community and started reading a lot of the books, it motivated me to start posting and sharing them on Facebook. I genuinely considered it an honor to help spread the word and support these creators. I never imagined that simply shining a spotlight would lead to me forming unbreakable bonds with so many of them.”

“Over time, those relationships inspired me to want a hero of my own. So, when Nathan Rouse asked if anyone was interested in having a hero created, I jumped at the opportunity,” says Hill. “He came up with the concept for a character named Osmo, and the moment I saw him, I knew—that was my character.”

“From there, I started getting artwork done for Osmo that helped shape his final look. That work eventually caught the attention of another creator, Alfred Paige, who came to me with an idea for a story. When he ran the pitch by me, I absolutely loved it. With Paige’s guidance, I was able to collaborate with an amazing creative team: Marcelo Santana, a very talented artist, and Saida Temofonte, an incredible letterer. Their contributions helped pave the way for bringing this story to life.”

“Honestly, I never imagined it would come this far. Best believe, I never set out to have my own comic book made—but I’ve definitely learned that making one is a process! All I ever wanted to do was show love and support to a community that I believe deserves more recognition and support. Somehow, what started as a simple deed led me here, with a character and comic of my own.”

It reminds me of a line from Trisha Yearwood: "What's meant to be will always find a way.”
