Today, I’m proud to introduce the newest member of the Wise Acre Comics family, Stanley Obende, an award-winning illustrator who will serve as the lead artist for our Africa Division.
Stanley is a Nigerian, self-taught comic book illustrator, storyboard artist, letterer, colorist, concept designer, and creator with over 10 years of experience bringing stories to life through dynamic framing and panel composition. Based in Lagos, he is known for his clean, energetic linework and strong visual storytelling.
“The core of a comic page is storytelling… finding different ways to frame a scene and communicate it so clearly that the reader understands it, even without words. That's the heart of comics,” says Stanley.
That philosophy is precisely what drew me to his work. At Wise Acre Comics, we’ve had the privilege of collaborating with many talented African artists. Bringing Stanley on board marks an important step as we expand a new division focused on African mythology and lore.
Our first project under this initiative will be Starbearer, developed in collaboration with Makeda Cheatom and the World Beat Center. The series will explore elements of Dogon mythology and culture. As we move forward, we are investing deeply in research and assembling a strong creative team to ensure authenticity.
